Welcome to My Journal: Exploring Nature, Nostalgia, and Motherhood

Hello and welcome to my journal. I’m Alice Clair, a Canadian artist based in New Westminster, BC. I’m so glad you’re here.

I used to blog back in my early twenties, sharing bits of my life, dogs, creative projects, and thoughts. Now, almost 20 years later, I’m excited to be back at it. This time, it feels different… deeper, more connected to my art and the everyday moments that inspire me.

My work explores the quiet beauty in everyday life, from worn linens, delicate butterflies, childhood memories, to the tender moments of motherhood. These themes have been with me for as long as I can remember, shaped by my grandfather Quimby Hess, an entomologist whose butterfly collection filled his basement, and by my love of thrifted treasures and family stories.

Balancing life as a mom, a school secretary, and an artist means my work is deeply personal. I’m drawn to the small details, the overlooked things that hold stories and memories. Whether I’m pinning dried flowers like specimens or painting a wrinkled bedsheet found at a thrift store, I’m always thinking about what we keep, what we let go, and how objects carry our past.

This journal is a place where I’ll share my thoughts, my creative process, inspirations from nature and family life, and news about upcoming projects and shows. It’s a space to reflect on the everyday moments that shape us and to connect with others who find meaning in the small things.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I’m excited to share more with you soon.

With warmth,
Alice
